What is division?

Division is one of the four main operations used in Mathematics. The symbol for division is (¸). The other four operations include Multiplication (×), subtraction (-), and addition (+). You can divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, or even negative numbers. Additionally, you can also divide algebraic equations. There are four parts of the division. The dividend, divisor, quotient, and remainder. The dividend refers to the number that will be split. On the other hand, the divisor refers to the number that will divide or split the dividend. The quotient refers to the whole number you get after dividing the dividend by the divisor.  Lastly, the remainder refers to the leftover when the divisor divides the dividend evenly. For example, if you have 5 apples to share with your friend. Each will get 2 apples with a remainder of one apple.

Example 1:

 Find 5 dividends and divisors that you can divide to get 50

Step 1: Multiply 50 with any random numbers

50 × 1 = 50

50 × 2 = 100

50 × 3 = 150

50 × 4 = 200

50 × 5 = 250

Step 2: Prove the dividend and divisor using division

50 ¸ 1 = 50

100 ¸ 2 = 50

150 ¸ 3 = 50

200 ¸ 4 =50

250 ¸ 5= 50

Step 1: Multiply 70 with random numbers

70 × 100 = 7,000

70 × 150 = 10, 500

70 × 200 = 14,000

70 × 250 = 17,500

70 × 300 = 21,000
